Caplan is an American meteorologist for FOX 32 Chicago. He joined the WFLD team in December 2015 as the station’s morning meteorologist for Good Day Chicago.
After graduating from college, he worked for WCIA in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. He worked as a news reporter there before being elevated to the position of weekend and noon weather anchor. In addition, Caplan co-hosted the station’s PM Magazine program and was one of the first reporters to be given access to a one-on-one interview with President Ronald Reagan at the White House.
Caplan was appointed chief weather anchor at WTVD in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, in 1987. In addition to his weather responsibilities, he was chosen two years later to co-anchor the station’s early evening program. He covered everything from snowstorms to hurricanes to tornadoes when he was there.
Caplan returned to Chicago in 1994 to work for WLS-TV. After graduating from Mississippi State University with a degree in meteorology, he was hired as the weekday meteorologist at 4 p.m.
