Matthew Chance is a British journalist working for CNN as the network’s Chief Global Affairs Correspondent. Chance worked as a freelance journalist in Asia before joining CNN. When correspondent Steve Harrigan departed CNN for Fox News Channel while on assignment, Chance joined CNN in October 2001 to take his place in Northern Afghanistan. He has covered events such as the fall of Kabul to the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan in 2001, the invasion of Iraq by Coalition forces in 2003, the hostage situation at the Beslan school, the London bombings in 2005, Russia under President Vladimir Putin, the war in South Ossetia in 2008, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
