Jane Pauley is an American television host and author, active in news reporting since 1972. She first gained fame as Barbara Walters’ replacement on the NBC morning show Today, where she co-anchored from 1976 to 1989, first with Tom Brokaw and then with Bryant Gumbel. She and Gumbel briefly collaborated with Deborah Norville in the late 1980s. She requested to be released from her contract in 1989, claiming that Norville’s inclusion in the program threatened her career. However, her request was turned down. From 1992 to 2003, she worked as a frequent anchor for the network’s newsmagazine Dateline NBC, where she collaborated with Stone Phillips.
After leaving NBC News in 2003, Pauley hosted The Jane Pauley Show, a syndicated daytime chat show that was canceled after just one season, from 2004 to 2005. She started contributing to The Today Show in 2009, where she hosted the AARP-sponsored “Your Life Calling” piece every week.
