Willie Geist is an American television personality and journalist. He is co-anchor of MS NOW’s Morning Joe and anchor of NBC News’s Sunday Today with Willie Geist. Geist also frequently serves as a fill-in anchor on both the 7-9 a.m. and 10 a.m. hours of Today.
After starting off as an editor and producer for CNN Sports Illustrated, Geist went on to work for CNN Sports as a field producer and reporter, covering events like the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, and The Masters.
Almost immediately following Don Imus’s dismissal in late April 2007, Geist started filling in as a co-host on MSNBC’s 6–9 a.m. morning time slot. In September 2007, he, Joe Scarborough, and Mika Brzezinski were appointed permanent co-hosts of Morning Joe. Geist started presenting his own 30-minute show, Way Too Early with Willie Geist, in late July 2009. It aired on MSNBC at 5:30 a.m., right before Morning Joe. He started filling in for Matt Lauer as the Today Show is host and newscaster in 2010. Geist departed Way Too Early in 2012 and officially joined Today as a co-host. He was appointed sole host of the revamped Sunday Today, which debuted in April of 2016. Since 2010, Geist has contributed to NBC Sports and NBC News’s coverage of every Olympic Games.
