José Díaz-Balart is a Cuban-American journalist and television anchor for both Telemundo and NBC News. He previously anchored weeknight editions of Noticias Telemundo on Telemundo and José Díaz-Balart Reports on MSNBC. He currently anchors Saturday editions of NBC Nightly News. He worked in print journalism for United Press International in the mid-1980s after a brief stint in radio. He was appointed Central American Bureau Chief for the Spanish International Network (now Univision) in December 1984. He was a member of the team of journalists who established Noticias Telemundo, Telemundo’s news branch, and its debut program, Noticiero Telemundo-HBC, in 1987.

He later made a name for himself as a television news reporter in Miami, when he was employed by CBS in May 1996 after working for WTVJ from 1988. He became the first Cuban-American to broadcast a network news program in August 1996 when he started anchoring This Morning on CBS News.
