Mariana Atencio is an American journalist, television host, author and speaker who was formerly a correspondent for NBC News. Atencio began working in journalism in 2009 as a reporter for Impremedia’s El Diario/La Prensa in New York City. Additionally, she was an anchor for the only Hispanic public service television station in the US, Vme-TV. In 2011, Atencio started working for Univision News as a guest anchor and correspondent. She reported on the 2012 presidential election for the network’s evening broadcast, Noticiero Univision and morning show Despierta América.

She started working for Univision as an investigative reporter in 2012. Atencio was one of five reporters who received an Investigative Reporters and Editors Award for their work on the Peabody Award-winning documentary Rapido y Furioso (Fast & Furious). She worked as a correspondent for the Investigative Unit of the network as well. She was a member of a five-person reporting team that received Univision’s first Peabody Award in 2013 for “Fast and Furious: Arming the Enemy,” an hour-long examination of the Operation Fast and Furious gun-walking incident.
