Jim Axelrod is the Chief Investigative Correspondent for CBS News and reports across all CBS News programs and platforms. Axelrod was previously CBS News’ senior national correspondent and chief investigator. Axelrod’s investigative journalism has been recognized with an Edward R. Murrow award for his coverage of the genetic testing industry, a George Polk Award for his work looking into compounding pharmacy fraud, and a Peabody Award for his series on the opioid addiction issue in West Virginia.

Axelrod began his career with CBS News in 1996 as a Miami-based journalist. He subsequently worked in the Dallas bureau from 1997 to 1999 and the New York office from 1999 to 2006. In addition, he was named a national correspondent for CBS News in 2009 after serving as the network’s chief White House correspondent from 2006 to 2009. From 2012-2016, Axelrod was the host of the Saturday edition of “CBS Evening News.”

He worked as a political reporter for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 1993 to 1996 before joining CBS News. Axelrod formerly worked as a reporter for WUTR-TV, Utica, New York (1989–1990) and WSTM-TV, Syracuse, New York (1990–1993). In 1989, he started working for WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine.
