Ashleigh Banfield is a Canadian-American journalist and host of Banfield on the NewsNation network, having previously served as host of Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield and Early Start on CNN. She joined CNN in January 2012 as co-anchor with Zoraida Sambolin of the network’s morning show, Early Start.
In 1988, Banfield started working for CJBN-TV in Kenora, Ontario. Later that year, she worked for CKY-TV in Winnipeg. She anchored the weekend news for CFRN-TV in Edmonton from 1989 to 1992. From 1992 to 1993, she was a producer at CICT-TV in Calgary; from 1993 to 1995, she was an evening news anchor and business correspondent. In 1994, Banfield took home two Iris Awards: Best of Festival and Best News Documentary.
During her time at CICT-TV, Banfield worked as a freelance associate producer for ABC’s World News Tonight. She reported on the Bush/Gorbachev summit in Russia in 1991 and the Clinton/Yeltsin summit in Vancouver in April 1993.
